Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior ceramics/pottery experience to become a member?

We have only three requirements to become a Ceramic Souls member, 1) prior experience with ceramics and/or pottery, 2) be able to work independently in the studio without aid from an instructor, and 3) a commitment to maintaining a clean clay room and following safe studio practices.

Do you offer teen membership?

At this time, we aren’t currently offering teen memberships but anticipate them coming in late 2025.

What is a Clay & Tool Rental?*

Clay & Tool shelf rentals are optional and available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the option to rent more than one if needed. Each shelf measures approximately 14” x 16” x 10” and is perfect for storing your tools, apron, unused clay, and other personal items between visits or while you’re in the studio. FYI - these are open shelves, not lockers and not intended for personal items of value.

Clay Connoisseurs enjoy a complimentary C&T space as part of their membership.

What is a Work-In-Progress Shelf?*

Work-in-Progress shelves (approximately 16”x24”x12” or 2.6 cu ft) are designated for temporary storage of greenware and bisqueware work-in-progress. The amount of shelf space varies by membership level and increases with higher hourly plans.

Members will receive pre-printed name cards equal to their allotted shelf spaces. These cards must be used to label the shelves holding their work-in-progress.

Once a piece is ready to glaze fire, it should be moved to the bisque fire shelves. Work-in-Progress shelves are not dedicated, when a member has no ongoing projects, they must remove their name card to free up the shelf for other members. Another shelf will be available when you begin your next project.

When will I be able to see the studio/space?

Construction is currently underway with an anticipated completion of mid-February. At that time, we will be doing some “open houses” for those that have expressed interest in memberships and/or classes. Although the studio won’t be fully set up, our hope is to give people an idea for what will be in place.

What kinds of tools will the studio have?

As a community studio, we will have community tools available for use by members and students while in the studio. That includes most things such as ribs, wires, carving tools, sponges, molds, brushes, almost everything you need to create or throw your work. There will be 2 wheel classroom areas, a member wheel area, hand building areas, glaze & tool area, and a gallery. Larger equipment will include slab roller, extruder, commercial kilns and more.

What kinds of glazes and types of clay?

You will have access to our community glazes and select commercial glazes. Our clay inventory will consist of our own discounted reclaimed clay and we will have a variety of popular commercial brands used in the marketplace. To maintain the quality of our recycled clay and to ensure a consistent firing process, the use of outside glazes and clays must be pre-approved by Ceramic Souls staff.

What if I need to cancel my membership?

Cancellation is available at any time with a 30-day written notice to info@ceramicsouls.com. That said, we do appreciate a minimum 3-month commitment.

Can I bring a friend?

If you’d like to have a friend experience Ceramic Souls, our space, the community and clay, you may invite them to a Hands-on-Clay class, we offer a 10% discount to a member's friends & family for that experience.

* Work-in-Progress and C&T shelf space measurements may end up being slightly different upon studio opening
